. hi. i am lee burnette. i'm a veteran and a student at city college. i served five years in the navy. moved here to start school, and actually i've been very surprised and happy with san francisco. it's one of the most veteran friendly towns i've been to and i appreciate that. i feel i'm good for the position because since i've been at city college, i was elected the veterans club alliance. i was elected one of the officers there. and basically with that, we do pretty much everything, helping veterans get contacted into medical care, their education, housing, everything, even their finances, and things. so that's a big issue. also, i'm a volunteer at david chiu's office. and when i met david, he told me i could work on a passion project. honestly the biggest thing in the city and this state, you know,ñ?ñ? since the wars have started, we've had mor?ñ?ñ vets coming home and committing suicide thanúçñ?ñ? dying overse. so i've actually joined a3sñ?ñ nonprofit called life for veterans, and that's -- what we want to target is not just helping veterans when they call in, not jump

gas stations that had both power and gas. today the u.s. navy ordered three helicopter carrier ships to the new jersey and new york coast. the "uss wasp," the "uss carter hall," and the "uss mesa verde" will provide relief efforts the need be. the new york police department today released this rather amazing video of helicopter search and rescue teams airlifting people to safety off of rooftops in the new york city borough of staten island. staten island's death toll stands at 12, out of a growing national death toll of 64 americans. new jersey governor chris christie today was with president obama at the site of today's landfall in atlantic city. they were on marine one together, the president's helicopter, touring some of the cities in ruin along the new jersey shorelines. both politicians, both leaders today going out of their way to emphasize that day three of this massive, multi-state, ongoing natural disaster is still no time for partisan politics. >> i want to thank the president. we spent an significant afternoon together, surveying the damage up and down the new jersey coast

other critical infrastructure. for that, we have emergency generators. we have a navy ship that has helicopters that can move assets around the state as well. we are going to be working with local officials to identify those critical infrastructure and how we can get what is needed as quickly as possible. a couple of other things we are concerned about, as power starts coming back on, we want to make sure people can also get to work. a lot folks in jersey work in new york come in the city, and in other places where transportation may be hobbled. one of the things i mentioned is the possibility of us using federal assets, and military assets as well as taking inventory of the country that can be brought in so we can help people get to their work. governor christie also mentioned the importance of schools. the sooner we can get them back into school, the sooner they are in a routine, that helps the families. we are going to have a lot of work to do. i do not want anybody to feel that somehow this is going to be cleaned up over night. we want to make sure people have realistic expectat
